                             WHAT IS REFLEXOLOGY?

Reflexology is a deeply relaxing and energising holistic therapy which dates backs to Ancient Egypt, Greece and China, and was also used by Native Americans. It treats the whole person rather than just the symptoms or problems.

It is based on the principle that the anatomy of the body is reflected in miniature in reflex zones on the soles of the feet and also on the hands.  The body is divided into ten equal, vertical zones ending in the fingers and toes.  The body is often in a state of imbalance, particularly after illness, injury or periods of stress, which blocks these vital energy pathways, preventing the body from functioning effectively.

By using specific techniques of holds and pressures on these zones, healing is both initiated and accelerated in the corresponding area of the body.  The aim of reflexology is to release any blockages and restore the free flow of energy and blood circulation to the whole body.  To achieve this a specific massage technique is applied to reflex areas in the feet (and sometimes the hands) which correspond to organs, tissues and systems throughout the entire body.  Stimulating these reflexes encourages the body to heal itself, restoring and maintaining natural equilibrium, as well as promoting relaxation and a general sense of well being.

Reflexology can bring about the same sensations of relaxation and restfulness that a full body massage can produce, and therefore it can be most useful in the treatment of stress - it encourages the body to heal itself and gets the body's systems to work in unison.

YOUR REFLEXOLOGY SESSION

For your first Reflexology session you should allow about an hour and a quarter (allowing me to go through a consultation form with you). After this each session takes about an hour. Your own circumstances and reasons for having Reflexology will determine the number of treatments you will need, and this will be discussed at your first session.

As Reflexology builds your immune system and helps your body to kick-start into healing itself, even if you have nothing wrong with you, one session, once a month is recommended to keep yourself “topped up”.

GENERAL

While many people use reflexology as a way of relaxing the mind and body and counteracting stress, at the same time many doctors and consultants and other health care professionals recognise reflexology as a well established, respected and effective therapy.

BENEFITS FROM REFLEXOLOGY

Reflexology can help support a wide variety of conditions by treating the body as a whole.   Most people can benefit from a reflexology treatment and there is no minimum or maximum age limit.

After injury, stress, illness or disease the body is imbalanced.   Reflexology can help to restore balance and harmony to the body by clearing congested reflexes, and it can help to:

  • balance the body's systems;
  • induce deep relaxation;
  • aid elimination;
  • kick-start the body into healing itself;
  • revitalise energy; and
  • cleanse the body of toxins and impurities.

Regarding pregnancy and fertility, reflexology can help support women and couples through their journey.

After you have completed a course of treatment for a specific reason, many people find it beneficial to continue with regular treatments in order to maintain health and well-being.

Reflexology is a safe, natural therapy, and you do not have to be ill to have it, as it is very relaxing and it is good for both you and your body to stop and relax for an hour - which is rare in the busy world in which we live.  If you have a health problem you would like to discuss to see if reflexology can benefit you, then please give me a call.
